I had wanted to make an image of this cascade along Smith Creek for a long time.  When the Buffalo River area had received much rain during the fall season, I knew the flow of the creek would be similar to spring with the possible addition of fall foliage.  When I arrived at Smith Creek, the color was still mostly green, but I decided to make the short walk down to the cascade just to see.  Color in the Ozarks and Ouachitas is always patchy and it is hard to predict how a specific area will look without going there.  For this scene, I was attracted to the cascade among the boulders along with the yellow, green and red foliage in the background.
