Buffalo River from Big Bluff

Big Bluff

Buffalo National River, Arkansas

Snow scenes in Arkansas only happen a few days out of a given year due to our milder winters.  It was a blessing to be able to get to the Centerpoint Trailhead and hike out onto the narrow trail and safely make this image.  I like the sweep of the near and distant bluffs and the turquoise waters of the river below as the dominant color in the scene.  The idea for this composition came to me from a black and white photograph in a book by photographer, author and conservationist Dr. Neil Compton, a man who played an instrumental role in the creation of the Buffalo National River in 1972.  I never forgot his image which inspired me to make one of my own from this very special place.
