Cerro Castellan (NEW)

Big Bend National Park, Texas

Cerro Castolon

The volcanic history of Cerro Castellan is evident in the surrounding rocks and formations of this impressive area.  I visited this area a couple days before at sunrise, but was unable to make a composition that I was happy with.  On this particular morning, I positioned myself in a better location to capture the light just after sunrise illuminating the mountain and rounded, porous rocks in the foreground.  I was also attracted to the contrast produced between the red rock and white, petrified volcanic ash layer.  In the future, I would like to return to this area and make some more compositions at night under moonlight due to the lack of light pollution.
