Paria Canyon-Vermilion Cliffs Wilderness, Arizona
Originally, I made this image of The Wave in color, but prefer the final version as black and white due to the increased contrast. The contrast allows the lines of the sandstone to dominate the scene and lead the viewer's eye to the distant pool. This scene was photographed totally in shadow, just before sunrise. Shortly after, I made the other Wave image in this gallery just after sunrise with first light illuminating the tops of these ancient, petrified dunes.
