Paria Canyon-Vermilion Cliffs Wilderness, Arizona
The Wave was a place that I had seen in photographs but could hardly believe really existed, looking more like a landscape on Mars than here on Earth. The first day I visited this place, I made many images in the full sunlight of late morning and early afternoon. I wished I had been there earlier to see the more dramatic light just after sunrise, so I decided to return a second morning and made this image. I waited for the pool in the bottom of the canyon to calm making a perfect reflection of the rock formation and sky just outside the scene above.
